Programme

Day 1

Arrive in Bulwayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city. Refresh and relax for a couple of hours. We will then motor south, to Mazunga – to the Bubye Valley Conservancy (BVC) (3 hours). This conservancy is home to most of the black and white rhinos remaining in Zimbabwe today. This conservancy has a lot of wildlife – including elephant, rhino, buffalo, lions, leopards, cheetah and wild dogs.

Day 2

You will be briefed on Zimbabwe (and Africa’s) problems with rhino poaching, and will meet some of the anti-poaching teams. The remainder of the day will be spent game viewing.

Day 3

We will motor back to Bulawayo, then on to the Matobo Hills – a proclaimed world heritage site. Here you will learn about this very special, beautiful, mystical place, and you will see numerous cave paintings. These paintings were done thousands of years ago, by the Bushmen – the nomadic hunter gatherers who inhabited all of southern Africa. You will learn about our Matobo leopard conservation project and assist with camera traps and capture of camera trap information.

Days 4, 5 & 6

Will be spent interacting with traditional African villages and rural schools in the area. You will be able to attend some of the classes, talk to the children, and assist with development projects such as painting, roofing, carpentry, or fencing, at the school.

Day 7

We will motor north to Hwange National Park, (4 hours) – this is a magnificent big game area, where apart from spectacular game viewing – you will learn about the problems associated with the survival of wild elephants, and the realities regarding human – animal conflict in southern Africa.

Day 8

In the afternoon, we will motor to Victoria Falls – (3 hours) settle in at your accommodation.

Day 9 & 10

Victoria Falls has much to offer. You will enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Falls themselves, you can haggle with the many carvers, curio vendors, and handicraft makers. You can watch tribal dancing or bungee jump into the Zambezi gorge. You will enjoy an evening riverboat cruise, a visit to the crocodile farm, or you can go white-water rafting on the Zambezi river.

Day 11

You depart for home, from Victoria Falls. Sated, replete with your impressions and memories of a colourful, vibrant, beautiful part of the world.
